Ferass Abuzaina
Ferass is a seasoned executive with a remarkable track record in the healthcare and MedTech industry. Currently, he serves as the VP/GM of Advanced Repair & Reconstruction (ARR) platform within BD Interventional, Surgery. This dynamic growth platform boasts an impressive +$800M in revenue with consistent double-digit growth and high profitability. In his current role, Ferass shoulders end-to-end general management responsibilities, from shaping strategic direction to overseeing operations including innovation, commercial excellence with full P&L accountability. His leadership has been instrumental in driving the transformation of soft tissue management in areas such as Hernia repair, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Additionally, the ARR platform is strategically expanding into attractive, high-growth adjacencies.
Before taking the helm at ARR, Ferass held the position of VP, Strategic Innovation at BD Life Sciences, Integrated Diagnostic Solutions (IDS). In this capacity, he was responsible for all aspects of strategic planning, business development and innovation for the entire ~$3.5B business unit. Ferass’s journey with BD began in 2013, where he assumed various roles within BD’s Preanalytical Systems (PAS) and Diabetes Care (DC). His contributions during this period laid the foundation for his subsequent leadership roles.
Prior to joining BD, Ferass spent over 8 years at Medtronic, where he held several roles of increasing responsibility. In his last role there, he was responsible for the Global Tech Strategy and Portfolio Management of Covidien’s Surgical Solutions Group, a +$5B business within Medtronic. Ferass’s MedTech journey began even earlier, as he worked as a Scientist at Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson Company, for 4 years starting in 2001.
Ferass holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from NYU Tandon School of Engineering, an MBA in Management & Marketing Intelligence from the University of Connecticut, School of Business, and an Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation from MIT Sloan School of Management. Most recently, he completed the BD LEAP Executive program at the Wharton Business School. He currently holds over 30 publications between issued patents and peer reviewed journals.
