Igor Matushansky
Currently, Igor Matushansky is the Section Head of the Sarcoma, Melanoma and Rare Tumor Oncology Group at Columbia University Medical Center. He has been treating patients at Columbia with a focus on sarcomas for nearly 20 years.
Concurrent with his clinical sarcoma focus, Dr. Matushansky has extensive experience in translational and clinical drug development. Previously Dr. Matushansky was Chief Medical Officer at Sail Biomedicines; Global Head Of Oncology at IPSEN; Global Head of Research and Development and Chief Medical Officer at Hookipa Pharma; Global Head of Translational Development for Oncology at Daiichi Sankyo; Global Head for Clinical and Scientific Development in the Gene & Cell Therapy Unit, and as Global Clinical Program Lead within the Oncology Translational Medicine Unit at Novartis. In addition to his current academic role, he continues to advise biotech/pharma.
Prior to his biotech/pharma experience, Dr. Matushansky was full time at Columbia University where he served on both the faculty of the Division of Medical Oncology and member of the Herbert Irving Cancer Center where he ran an independent laboratory which focused on the molecular biology of sarcomas, including translational opportunities and clinical trials.
Dr. Matushansky’s academic qualifications include a BA degree, summa cum laude, from Columbia University, as well as a MD and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He performed his internal medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and then completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology as well as a post-doctoral research fellowship in Cancer Biology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
