Teshtar Elavia

Teshtar Elavia currently serves as the Worldwide Vice President of R&D Surgery at BD (Becton Dickinson and Company). In this role, Teshtar is responsible for leading all innovation, product development and lifecycle management for the surgery business. Prior to this role, Teshtar was in the role of WW VP R&D, Diabetes Care responsible as the Global R&D head for the spin-off of the Diabetes Business from BD into its own standalone public company embecta (NASDAQ: EMBC). In his previous role at BD, Teshtar joined as the Worldwide Vice President of R&D for the Pre-Analytical Systems business within the Life Sciences segment. Under Teshtar’s leadership, the business developed a growth mindset, developing and commercializing an  innovation pipeline to further advance the market leadership position while executing on disruptive new programs in in-vitro diagnostics.

Prior to joining BD, Teshtar was the Associate Vice President of New Product Introductions for Delivery and Device at Eli Lilly. In this role, Teshtar created and executed Global R&D strategy and vision for innovation and new product development in diabetes and autoimmune disease divisions. Teshtar led the development and execution of their connected device strategy and roadmap to enable low cost connectivity solutions for consumables while forming external partnerships in the diabetes infusion pump therapy space.

Before joining Eli Lilly, Teshtar served in roles of increasing responsibility at Covidien which was later acquired by Medtronic in 2015.  At Medtronic, Teshtar served as the Global R&D Director of R&D for their Medical Supplies business with a revenue of 2.8B across Patient Care and Safety (PCS), Nutritional Insufficiency (NI), and Deep Vein Thrombosis product platforms. Teshtar also took on an expat assignment as the R&D Business Head to start, expand, and manage the India R&D Center for Covidien/Medtronic.

Prior to joining Covidien, Teshtar served in various product development roles at DePuy Spine a Johnson and Johnson company where he launched multiple products including biologic and surgical solutions for intervertebral body fusion.

Throughout his career, Teshtar has launched multiple new products in the interventional, diabetes, diagnostics, infusion pumps, sharps and safety spaces.

Teshtar holds a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering with distinction from the University of Bombay (India). He earned a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Widener University (Pennsylvania). Teshtar is also a certified Six Sigma and Lean Master Black Belt.
